Yulia Ilina will perform a variation of Carmen Suite at Collage 2014: A Denton Dance Festival this weekend. Ilina, a Russian ballerina and artist-in-residence with Denton Dance Conservatory, comes to Denton from the Kiev Ballet School in Ukraine. She danced as a soloist with the St. Petersburg State Academic Ballet Theatre under Boris Eifman and then the St. Petersburg State Ballet Theatre under L. Jacobson. Ilina dances choreographer A. Alonso’s variation ofCarmen, set to music from Bizet’s opera.

Collage 2014 is coordinated and presented by Denton City Contemporary Ballet and its artistic director, Lisa Racina-Torre. Racina-Torre started the dance festival in part to inspire emerging and student dancers who are in the contemporary ballet, the resident company of Racina-Torre’s Denton Dance Conservatory, and put them on the stage with professional dancers.
